What caught my eye was the blue house at the end of the
street. It wasn’t until I started drawing that I noticed that I’d be able to
include one or more cars from the back, the side and the three-quarter view –
all in the same composition. Cars are not at the top of my favorite subjects (or
even on the list), but I know I can always use the practice.
At this time of year – the seemingly endless doldrums between the holidays and “spring” (defined by me as warm and dry enough to sketch outdoors without wearing gloves and a down parka) – I’m just biding my time until I’m not limited to compositions determined by my parking spots. These doldrums occur every year, of course, but the period has been especially long during COVID when I don’t feel safe spending time indoors at my usual winter sketching venues. Anyone else feeling like spring cannot come soon enough?
I like the blue building that draws you into the sketch. Unlike you my daily sketching is mostly determined by the availability of a parking space. Even in the fall I pretty much sketched from the car.
