Fall is in the air. The squirrels are extremely busy
these days – so many of them dashing around, hiding their nuts. Although the
temps here are still in the 70s and even low 80s, with sunshine every day (a
phenomenal summer – the longest stretch of rainless days since I began sketching),
the maples are starting to turn. If this keeps up, we will probably have a
fantastic autumn – cooler but still sunny and with lots of color. We don’t
always have falls like that, but this might be the year.
Beautiful tree and the light on the trunk is really shows the contours. The car is a a nice foil for the colourful tree.
ReplyDeleteGreat discussion previously on taking classes and not just copying the instructors way of doing things. I follow an artist on youtube and follow along as he paints, but when I go to draw/paint my own vision I get lost and the result is not what I was looking for!
Thanks, Cathy! When I was starting out, I viewed a lot of videos and studied many sketches online, and after a while, I got confused by all the different styles I saw and while trying to emulate those styles. Now I still watch some videos and take workshops, too, but the main things I'm looking for are different approaches to on-location sketching that I can incorporate into my own style. I'm a lot pickier now about the workshops and classes I take. I think it takes a while to figure out what one's style is, though.
DeleteDid you find your style through noticing what tools you picked up most frequently, or? I appreciate your time and experince on these things!
ReplyDeleteNo... I didn't choose my style -- my style chose me! :-) Seriously -- I didn't make any conscious choices. It's just what evolved over time and regular practice, not any kind of deliberate choice or effort.
DeleteThanks for your time Tina! Maybe I am overthinking this, lol! But I guess it's important to me to.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great blog!
Nice variety of color in your tree. We have had some cool temps lately. Tonight it is expected to go down to nearly 50 and only reach a high of about 70 tomorrow. Made the water in the pool downright chilly. I'm not ready for summer to end.
ReplyDeleteHope you can stretch your summer out a bit longer! I think we still have a few weeks left. :-)
