In addition to sub-freezing temperatures, we’ve been treated to several amazing days of sunshine and pure blue skies the past week. We’re past the solstice, so technically the days are getting longer, but it’s going to be a long time before we notice it. What I am noticing on these clear, bright days is that even as early as 1 p.m., the shadows are long. That’s probably a common winter sight in some climates, but it’s rare for us in the Pacific Northwest. To me, this sketch looks like it could have been made at 6 p.m. on a hot July day.
