Before I retired, I had been self-employed for many years as a marketing copywriter. Although I was a pretty good boss of myself, I didn’t show enough appreciation back then for my hard-working employee, nor did I know about Employee Appreciation Day (first Friday in March). In fact, the day was off my radar until I was informed of it by Top Pot Doughnuts suggesting that doughnuts would be an appropriate way to express appreciation to one’s employees. ‘Nuff said.

The reason for choosing that particular donut cracks me up! But it does look beautiful on the page. I was a secretary/administrative aide for years, and looked forward to what my various employers might come up with to recognize my/our hard work on Secretary's Day. Sometimes flowers at the office, sometimes candy. The one that was the most fun was when the high school principle I worked for announced he was taking me out to lunch. We had a great work relationship and my husband taught at the same school so theoretically no eyebrows should raise at this. But small town, small school, and a group of hooting high school boys standing outside as we cruised by in his sports car with the top down . . . no doubt some kind of gossip got started that day. We laughed it away and had a delicious lunch and good time. So does Secretary's Day still exist or is Employee Day now a more pc acknowledgement?
ReplyDeleteGreat story! And the convertible didn't hurt at all! ;-) I'm guessing that Employee Appreciation Day has replaced Secretary's Day (which got renamed "Administrative Assistants Day" at some point, too).
