Two Sculptures at 1700 Seventh

11/30/12 Zig and Akashiya Sai brush markers, Stillman & Birn Epsilon
Walking past a building called 1700 Seventh in downtown Seattle, I stopped abruptly when I spotted two striking sculptures in the lobby. Made of scrap metal and other found objects, the horse sculpture called “Green River” was made by Deborah Butterfield. Next to it were three spheres made of wood, a work called “Events and Incidents, Sphere #3, #5, #6,” by Seattle artist Deloss Webber. I hoped to convey the abstract quality of these works by using brush markers to capture the angular yet graceful lines in the horse and the organic shapes of the spheres.
