The Purple House

The Phinney Farmers Market is the only one I know of in Seattle that has an actual “center stage” – a nice shady tent for the performers and shady seating for the audience. Today’s show was The Purple House, a band led by vocalist Tony performing popular songs that might be generally categorized as folk, but the show was punctuated by an unusual rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Beat it” as I sketched. Whatever the musical genre, kids were dancing up a storm. True to the band’s name, his shirt was bright purple.

Free music while sketching on a sunny afternoon: Despite yesterday’s tragedy, the summer is starting out well.

  1. I wish we had a market with music. Ours are very small and there is no entertainment at all except for the vendors and the veggies and flowers. I like how you included a bit of the audience too. Nicely done!
