Foreshortening Lesson on the Patio

7/8/14 Diamine Chocolate Brown and Grey and Pilot Iroshizuku Ku-jaku inks,
water-soluble pencil, Canson XL 140 lb. paper
Technically, it’s a deck, not a patio, because it’s slightly elevated from the ground. But for the sake of this week’s Urban Sketchers Flickr group theme, “Patios,” I decided it was close enough. Here’s a sketch of Greg trying to get a tan. I stood a few steps down on the stairway that leads to our backyard to sketch this, which gave me one of the strangest, most foreshortened life drawing views I’ve ever attempted. (He complained that one foot is larger than the other. Baby, you have no idea how much worse it could have been.)

  1. That foreshortened position is so difficult to sketch. LOL I think you did great!
