9/25/21 Steller's jay |
Ever since we started feeding Steller’s jays in our backyard, they have learned to perch on the deck railing and look into our kitchen door when they hear us prepping our lunch, just to remind us to bring the peanuts. Since we had fed them plenty on this day and had already gone back into the house, they were fat and happy at this point. Yet this one remained on the railing, no longer looking through the door but simply enjoying his post-prandial lethargy. He was only a few feet away.
Through the screen door, I had a perfect view for several
minutes – the most leisurely drawing opportunity I have ever been given by one
of these lovely jays. Maybe he was thanking me for all those peanuts.
